Waiting on Wednesday {28}: 3:59

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Today I'm featuring 3:59 by Gretchen McNeil.

Synopsis from Goodreads:  Josie Byrne's life is spiraling out of control. Her parents are divorcing, her boyfriend Nick has grown distant, and her physics teacher has it in for her. When she's betrayed by the two people she trusts most, Josie thinks things can't get worse.

Until she starts having dreams about a girl named Jo. Every night at the same time—3:59 a.m.

Jo's life is everything Josie wants: she's popular, her parents are happily married, and Nick adores her. It all seems real, but they're just dreams, right? Josie thinks so, until she wakes one night to a shadowy image of herself in the bedroom mirror – Jo.

Josie and Jo realize that they are doppelgängers living in parallel universes that overlap every twelve hours at exactly 3:59. Fascinated by Jo's perfect world, Josie jumps at the chance to jump through the portal and switch places for a day.

But Jo’s world is far from perfect. Not only is Nick not Jo's boyfriend, he hates her. Jo's mom is missing, possibly insane. And at night, shadowy creatures feed on human flesh.

By the end of the day, Josie is desperate to return to her own life. But there’s a problem: Jo has sealed the portal, trapping Josie in this dangerous world. Can she figure out a way home before it’s too late?

Why I'm Waiting: I loved Gretchen McNeil's Possess and Ten so she's on my automatic pre-order list. Anything she writes I will buy. If you haven't read anything by her yet, you should.  She's amazing.

3:59 will be released by Balzer + Bray on September 17th, 2013!

Rock the Drop 2013

It's that time again! Rock the Drop 2013 will happen tomorrow 4/18/2013. I participated last year with some books from the lovely folks at Haper Collins and it was a blast. This year I'll be dropping the following around Philadelphia for some lucky teens to find:

Level 2, by Lenore Appelhans

What Happens Next, by Colleen Clayton

A Beautiful Dark, by Jocelyn Davies

Dark Eden, by Patrick Carman

Justin Bieber: Just Getting Started

Most of these books are new but are duplicates of books I received from the publisher, so thank you to Harper, Simon & Schuster, and Little Brown!! If you want to join in the fun, see the details below courtesy of Figment.

Here’s how Rock the Drop works:

1. Print out the official bookplate (click here for a full-size version) and put it inside a book you want to share. Used books are totally okay! You can also share the bookplate on your blog, Tumblr, and Facebook.

2. Plan a super sneaky or sentimental place to hide your book. Under the tree in your favorite park? On the subway? In the cafeteria? Whichever place you choose is perfect.

3. On Thursday, April 18, drop your book and then tweet a picture or the name of the location with the hashtag #rockthedrop.

4. Bask in the glow that comes with introducing a complete stranger to his or her new favorite book.

And don’t forget, you can FIND books too! Follow @readergirlz for more info on #rockthedrop.

Rock the Drop celebrates YALSA‘s Support Teen Literature Day. It’s being coordinated by readergirlz, Figment, Soho Teen, I Heart Daily, and 826NYC.

This year, you can also donate books to the awesome 826NYC to help them grow their in-house library and support their youth writing and literacy initiatives! Package up books you love and mail them to:

Waiting on Wednesday {27}: The 100

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Today I'm featuring The 100 by Kass Morgan.

Synopsis from Goodreads:  In the future, humans live in city-like spaceships orbiting far above Earth's toxic atmosphere. No one knows when, or even if, the long-abandoned planet will be habitable again. But faced with dwindling resources and a growing populace, government leaders know they must reclaim their homeland...before it's too late.

Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents are being sent on a high-stakes mission to recolonize Earth. After a brutal crash landing, the teens arrive on a savagely beautiful planet they've only seen from space. Confronting the dangers of this rugged new world, they struggle to form a tentative community. But they're haunted by their past and uncertain about the future. To survive, they must learn to trust-and even love-again.

Why I'm Waiting: A toxic Earth, spaceships, a struggle to survive. Definitely right up my alley. Plus, I hear they are already developing a pilot for TV and I always like to read the book before I watch the television show.

The 100 will be released by Little Brown BFYR on September 3rd, 2013!

Waiting on Wednesday {26}: These Broken Stars

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Today I'm featuring These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner.

Synopsis from Goodreads:  It's a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.

Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they're worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other's arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder-would they be better off staying here forever?

Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won't be the same people who landed on it.

The first in a sweeping science fiction trilogy, These Broken Stars is a timeless love story about hope and survival in the face of unthinkable odds.

Why I'm Waiting: OMG, that cover. SWOON! And, well, we all know I'm a sucker for a good sci-fi romance novel.
